As a survivor of slavery turned activist, James Kofi Annan is an internationally-recognized leader in the fight against child slavery. After receiving a grant from the Hovde Foundation, James and his team at Challenging Heights opened one of the largest rehabilitation shelters in West Africa. This facility is currently a home for over 45 former child slaves and is quickly building the scope of James’ vision to protect and support children in Ghana.
To increase awareness for the continued struggle of child slavery and the lack of protection for children’s rights, James will be in the U.S. from September 30 – October 30, 2012. He will be available to speak on his own experiences as a child slave and how he envisions child slavery ending in our lifetime.
